Credit Analyst
Position Summary
The Credit Analyst provides analytical and technical support primarily for the Commercial and Agricultural loan portfolios and for the Lending Department as a whole. This position evaluates financial information, prepares credit analysis, supports sound lending decisions, and helps ensure loan relationships are accurately documented, monitored, and administered in accordance with Bank policy and applicable regulatory requirements.
The Credit Analyst serves as a collaborative resource to Loan Officers, Loan Assistants, and other members of the Lending Team and may participate on other teams supporting Union State Bank’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, Team Guidelines, and commitment to creating a “Better State of Banking.”
Work Location
This position is based at Union State Bank and is primarily performed on-site. Regular in-office attendance is expected to support team collaboration, training, customer interactions, committee participation, business development activities, and other essential job functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze financial and credit information for new, renewing, and existing loan relationships, including financial statements, tax returns, credit bureau information, Bank records, and third-party information.
- Prepare accurate and timely credit presentations, spreadsheets, reports, summaries, cash flow analyses, and well-supported conclusions for review by Loan Officers and applicable approval authorities.
- Compile and organize financial information in a consistent format to support underwriting, annual reviews, renewals, and ongoing portfolio monitoring.
- Assign and support objective loan risk ratings based on repayment capacity, financial condition, collateral support, industry conditions, and other relevant credit factors, within the authority of the position.
- Establish, review, and update credit and loan files. Ensure required financial information, analysis, and supporting documentation are complete, accurate, current, properly indexed, and accessible.
- Partner with Loan Officers and Loan Assistants to coordinate loan requests, track borrower financial information, identify missing items, and support the timely completion of analysis and documentation.
- Maintain working knowledge of Bank lending policies, procedures, underwriting standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. Identify and clearly document policy exceptions or deviations for appropriate review.
- Provide technical credit analysis support to Loan Officers and communicate questions, emerging risks, and significant changes in a borrower’s financial condition.
- Review appraisals and evaluations for completeness, consistency, and acceptable content within assigned responsibilities, and maintain required file documentation.
- Complete in-house real estate or collateral evaluations when assigned and qualified, in accordance with Bank policy, procedures, and applicable requirements.
- Coordinate recurring stress testing or sensitivity analysis for designated segments of the loan portfolio and communicate results to appropriate individuals or committees.
- Ensure data entry, calculations, system records, and credit documentation are accurate and complete. Promptly report and help correct identified errors or inconsistencies.
- Protect confidential customer and Bank information and follow all information security, privacy, record retention, and internal control requirements.
- Provide backup support to other Lending Team members and assist other departments when appropriate to maintain customer service and operational continuity.
- Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Customer Service, Team, and Department Responsibilities
- Follow Union State Bank Service Standards and provide responsive, accurate, and professional support to internal and external customers.
- Contribute to a collaborative work environment through information sharing, cross-training, and support of department goals.
- Communicate proactively regarding missing information, competing priorities, emerging credit concerns, or issues that may affect analysis quality, loan decisions, customer service, or deadlines.
- Maintain familiarity with Bank products and services so appropriate referrals can be made based on customer needs.
- Assist Loan Officers with internal file reviews and with developing and maintaining existing and prospective customer relationships, as requested.
- Participate in Loan Committee and ALCO meetings as an active, prepared, and knowledgeable member when requested.
- Participate in Lending Department, training, process improvement, sales and service, and Bankwide projects as requested.
- Represent the Bank professionally in customer, community, and civic activities when assigned or appropriate.

Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, agriculture, business, economics, or a related field preferred.
- Four years of relevant banking, lending, accounting, financial analysis, agricultural finance, commercial credit, or related experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the required knowledge and skills may be considered.
- No specific license or certification is required. Ongoing job-specific, compliance, regulatory, and credit training is expected.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of lending operations, credit underwriting, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and loan documentation is preferred, or the ability to develop this knowledge through training and experience.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify trends, inconsistencies, and material credit risks.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply policies, procedures, loan instructions, financial information, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to develop clear, concise, and well-supported written credit analysis and communicate findings professionally.
- Strong customer service, active listening, interpersonal, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Sound judgment and decision-making within the authority of the position, including the ability to raise concerns and seek guidance when appropriate.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly Excel and Word, and the ability to learn credit analysis, core processing, imaging, and other Bank systems.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Lending Team and other departments.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, absorb and retain information, and meet timesensitive deadlines.
- Openness to using technology and process improvements to increase accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and service quality.
